The Vancouver Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership (VanAsep) is a non-profit society incorporated on March 15, 2005. VanAsep is a partnership project to proliferate Aboriginal employment. The society proudly collaborates with First Nation communities, Metis Provincial Council along with industry and training institutions.
The main focus is to support Aboriginal participation in Construction Career programs. Since 2005 over 1200 clients have participated in the VanAsep Construction Careers program and today over 300 Aboriginal people are registered as trades apprentices. The current project and partnerships focus on the 2010 Olympic Corridor from Tsawwassen First Nation to Lil'wat First Nation. This includes many major construction projects such as the Sea to Sky Highway, 2010 Olympic venues, the Richmond Vancouver Canada Line, and the Delta Port expansion project. The partnership was recognized with an Award of Excellence in Education from the Vancouver Regional Construction Association in November, 2006.
VanAsep Training Society is now considering a project to support Construction careers on Independent Power Projects, where First Nations and Industry have ratified local impact benefit agreements. These projects range from the North Island to the Sunshine Coast watershed as well as along the Vancouver and Fraser Valley coastal mountain ranges.
Along with Independant Power Projects, VanAsep Training Society has become heavily involved with training for the Supply Chain. VanAsep is partnering with numerous organizations that have common interests of identifying and facilitating employment, business and economic development opportunities for First Nations and Aboriginal people onĀ Canada's Pacific Gateway and the Supply Chain.
