July 5, 2010 The Talking Stick Challenge - VanAsep Training Society is hosting a golf tournament on Friday, August 6th. The tournament will take place at Kings Links by the Sea in Boundary Bay, BC. The tournament will be a Texas Scramble format and will commence at 1pm. The tournament is in support of the Tsawwassen Gateway Skills Centre. (pdf invite below)
May 20, 2010 VanAsep Training Society, in partnership with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) has completed two guide books for the new economy. The first is "The Aboriginal-Industry Partnership Guide for the new economy" (pdf link below). This guide will help you understand, develop, and maintain a strong, viable partnership. The second is "The Aboriginal-Industry Job Coach, a guide for the new economy (pdf link below). This publication will define the role of a job coach and their importance to success.
April 27, 2010 VanAsep Training Society will be administering three consecutive Carpentry Foundation Training Programs at the Native Education Centre in Vancouver. The first of the three will commence on May 31st, 2010. This program will give you the foundation to become a red-seal carpenter. To learn more regarding this program, there is a brochure(pdf) below.
Jan.13, 2010 VanAsep Training Society is proud to announce the opening of the new Gateway Skills Centre on Tsawwassen First Nation. The centre was built in partnership with Tsawwassen First Nation and the First Nations Employment Society. The centre is designed to upskill First Nations people in Heavy Equipment Operation and the Supply Chain Sector.
Dec. 11, 2009 VanAsep Training Society had its annual Christmas/Awards luncheon in Whistler, BC. The event occured at the new Squamish/Lil'wat Cultural Centre. Board of Directors, Partners, Clients and Staff attended and enjoyed an exquisite lunch as well as an awards ceremony for outstanding achievement by our clients. We recognized 15 clients in 8 different trades (word doc below). All award recipients received new snowboards that were obtained from the Squamish Nation snowboard team.
Dec. 3, 2009 Supply Chain Career Training Programs. Start a career in logistics, operations, materials handling, freight, transportation, inventory or warehousing. The program includes; essential skills, logistics, safety certification, driver and forklift training, field trips to ports, airports, and warehouses. There is a program poster in pdf format below.
Oct. 5, 2009 Supply Chain partnership project begins. VanAsep, along with First Nations Employment Society and Kwantlen Polytechnic University are launching training programs within the supply chain sector. To start, 2 programs are being offered. "Parts & Warehousing Person 1 - foundation" and "Parts and Warehousing Person 1" The programs will be offered at 3 different locations - FNEEC, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and Tsawwassen First Nation. Deadline for application is Oct. 23, 2009. To learn more, there is a pdf file below.
Sept.15, 2009 VanAsep has produced our annual report for circulation. The report consists of messages from the board of directors, results, and VanAsep's pilot projects. VanAsep has also produced two manuals (job coach and partnership) to be informative and influencial in respect to the protocol in which business is conducted. (see pdf below)
June 11, 2009 VanAsep, along with Port Metro Vancouver and First Nations Employment Society hosted an "Opening the Gateway Forum" at the new Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre. The event stressed the roles and objectives of everyone involved related to the Gateway. There were many noteworthy speakers including Wendy John (Musqueam councillor), Oksana Exell (Asia Pacific Gateway Skills Council), Duncan Wilson (Port Metro), Linden Pinay (VanAsep), and Jason Calla (Mosquito Creek Development). The morning concluded with a signing of a memorandum of understanding. The afternoon had many great presenters speaking about business and career opportunities.

March 2009, Request for Expressions of Interest The VanAsep Training Society is requesting proposals from industry and employers to develop and implement workplace based training (WBT) programs for Aboriginal people in the construction of hydro projects, related facilities and infrastructure.
