There are good paying jobs available in the construction industry for Aboriginal workers. Through its 6-week foundation training program, VanAsep Training Society will help you learn what you need to work in construction and make the most of those opportunities. No experience required.
The Foundation Training program is recognized by industry leaders and certified by the Industry Trade Authority (ITA). You'll learn:
Construction basics employers want. Learn and perform the basic tasks needed to work on a job site.
What jobs or trades suit you. Learn about the many options available and try your hand at various tasks and types of work.
How to get a good paying job. Learn how to connect with employers through job searchers, placement and referrals.
How the construction industry works. Get an inside perspective of what's expected, what you can offer, and what it takes to make it.
Industry safety and certification. Learn valuable safety knowledge that makes you more attractive to employers and can increase your wages.
How to advance in construction careers. Learn hot the journey to becoming a Red Seal certified tradesperson can open the door to construction career opportunities.
WHEN YOU FINISH FOUNDATION TRAINING, YOU WILL:
Have completed several projects including building a sawhorse, tool box and a brick wall
Have visited construction sites
Have learned:
Why math skills are important
To use optical levels
To operate hand and power tools to understand construction drawings
To erect ladders and scaffolding
To tie knots and use fibre ropes
To use and identify hand signals for hoisting and lowering equipment
Be partnered with an experienced Training Advisor to help connect you with and employer and support you on construction job sites.
Training takes place at various locations in the Lower Mainland. Cost may be partially or fully sponsored. Candidates must complete a trades assessment and industry interview.
